Biographical / Historical
Darwin Maxon Andrews was born on October 3, 1869 in Farina, Illinois and dies on August 14, 1938 in Boulder, Colorado. He was an internationally known horticulturist and botanist who specialized in soils, plant collection, and propagation of many species found on mountain and plain. His breeding of peonies, phlox, iris, and lilacs brought many named varieties into the markets both in the Rocky Mountains and throughout the world. He began collecting Colorado plants in 1893 and later founded the Rockmont Nursery in boulder, Colorado. This created a need for an illustrated catalogue, which led Mr. Andrews to become an expert in photography.
