Biographical / Historical
The Guild was formed in 1960 when three female members of the Board of Trustees invited a group of women to a coffee at the Denver Botanic Gardens York Street House. From this meeting, the Denver Botanic Gardens Junior Committee was established. In 1962, the group realized that they would not always be “juniors,” so they changed their name to the Denver Botanic Gardens Guild. It began as a small group and continues to have less than one hundred members.
The group raised money to purchase some of the first herbal plants for the Herb Garden, as well as for the architectural plans and the construction materials, and later for the expansion of the garden. They have also provided funds for internships and other projects at the Denver Botanic Gardens. They have also been involved with the cutting garden, cutting blossoms, pods, and grasses to dry and sell at the Holiday Market.
